Bboxx has launched a new carbon credit program certified under the prestigious Gold Standard, targeting five African nations. The initiative aims to drive sustainable development by rolling out clean energy solutions like solar home systems, PAYGO clean cooking technologies, and solar-powered water pumps.
The program is expected to generate up to 60,000 carbon credits annually and will cover operations in Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, Togo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“This certification highlights our commitment to providing scalable, innovative clean energy solutions,” Bboxx Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Osijo noted.
Bboxx’s efforts are projected to offset more than 20 million tons of carbon emissions while improving energy access for over 4 million customers. The carbon credits generated could deliver up to $100 million in revenue, marking a significant opportunity for both environmental impact and economic growth.
“The certificate enables us to accelerate energy access in Africa while building resilient communities and unlocking greater market potential,” Osijo said.
The Gold Standard certification is globally recognized for projects that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and provide lasting social, economic, and environmental benefits. Bboxx’s initiative reflects the company’s mission to deliver accessible, decentralized clean energy while driving capital into Africa’s energy transition.
By investing in clean cooking and solar home systems, Bboxx is offering affordable energy solutions that also deliver long-term carbon offsets, empowering both households and businesses in remote areas to improve their quality of life.
Bboxx’s Solar Home Systems will also create additional carbon credits each year. Solar Home Systems revolutionise the lives of families and small businesses located in remote and peri-urban areas in Africa. These systems allow more people to access renewable energy that can be used to power their homes and charge electronic devices, and businesses also benefit from these Solar Home Systems as they enable them to carry out tasks beyond daylight hours.
